3D print for chewing gums

Wacker Chemie AG will premier two brand new products for the confectionery industry at the upcoming ProSweets Cologne fair. The new Candy2Gum technology heralds a new kind of mouthfeel for sweets, allowing the product to start out as a chewable candy and then shortly thereafter transform into chewing gum.

These new kinds of confectionery are manufactured in a boiling process which now also allows for water-based fatty and natural ingredients like fruit juices, cocoa and coffee to be integrated. The secret is in the production procedure, since Candy2Gum products can simply be boiled.
The manufacturing process for Candy2Gum products is similar to that of a chewable candy and can therefore be carried out by corresponding conventional confectionery boiling equipment. Wacker offers a pre-formulated mixture for this known as Premix Capiva® C03 which can simply be added into the mix. Capiva® C03 is insoluble in water, but it can be melted completely and then mixed in homogenously. The premix can even be mixed together with sugary or sugar-free candy masses.
Wacker Chemie will additionally debut the world’s first 3D printing with chewing gum, making a variety of customised chewing gum shapes possible. Wacker has developed a new kind of product formula specifically for printable chewing gums and calibrated the corresponding software and hardware for this sophisticated food product matrix. This new approach means that chewing shapes can also come in the form of names, logos or lifelike miniature figures.
