Multipond consistently sets new standards with its developments in weighing technology and is constantly working to raise its already very high level of quality. The company‘s investments are now paying off, particularly on the booming US market.

The Multi-head weigher production and sales specialists Multipond Wägetechnik GmbH, a subsidiary of Atoma Gesellschaft für automatische Waagen GmbH, has long since established itself as a technological leader and innovator for weighing systems of outstanding quality. Multipond marketing department spokesperson Nina Pollack emphasises that the owner-operated company is now seeking to expand this position. Multipond has recently made enormous investments in production and in its sales and service centres. A new production hall and a new technical centre including a climate chamber have been erected at the company headquarters in Waldkraiburg, Germany, while the company’s sales and service location in the USA has undergone significant expansion.

Engineered and manufactured in Germany
Multipond currently has a workforce of 220 employees, 165 of which are located in Waldkraiburg. Under the slogan “Engineered and manufactured by Germany”, the highly motivated Multipond team is constantly working to increase the company’s already outstanding level of quality even more. “We can now conduct experiments with customers at the new technical centre and work together on tailor-made solutions to achieve even greater optimisation.” One of the latest examples of Multipond’s advanced technological developments is the 36-head weigher from its high-speed 400 series, which the company claims is the fastest combination weigher of its type in the world. Another new Multipond item is the J-Generation, which generated a great deal of interest at interpack 2014. All of the parameters involved were illuminated in elaborately detailed work in order to fulfil the extremely exacting requirements of Hygienic Design (HD). This involved rethinking and overhauling everything, starting with a frame design featuring the greatest possible reduction in the number of horizontal surfaces, gaps and hollow spaces, and extended to foregoing the use of aluminium and the monitor mount all the way through to easy cleaning. Even the weigher containers comply with the strict hygienic regulations.

Innovative power is demonstrated with its patents
Multipond’s innovative power is also demonstrated with its two patents for the “MAGiiR” system for magnetic field-controlled impact pulse reduction and the high-speed “Twin Double Duckmouth” transfer system. Compared to conventional combination weigher concepts, the “Twin Double Duckmouth” is up to 40?% faster, even with maximum quantities. And with MAGiiR the measurement value log times in combination with an adaptive filter are reduced by up to 60?%. This results in achieving higher cycle rates. Pollack asserts, “We are always one step ahead of the market”. Part of this strategy is to always be able to justify the higher prices compared to those of the competition. “We don’t just want to make a pledge to quality, we also want to keep that pledge”, continues Pollack. This quality pledge has been embodied for years in the long service life of Multipond weighers and their extremely high level of measurement precision, which is always ensured thanks to their unique fully automatic calibration. Pollack refers to the Multipond advantages commenting, “Our customers do pay a higher purchase price, but it quickly pays for itself through the reduction of giveaways in daily operation”.

The company wants to continue concentrating on its core expertise of weighers along with upstream and downstream modules such as vibration trays and transfer systems. “We will continue in the future to concentrate on the production of tailor-made multi-head weighers,” is the maxim. Multipond ships out around 140 systems each year. In recent years the company has achieved growth rates at the high end of the single-digit range, and even during the mechanical engineering crisis years of 2009 and 2010 it still attained positive results.

All in all the company‘s management views Multipond’s future development and market opportunities as “very positive”. Particularly on the US market, Multipond’s unceasing efforts to build up the company with a US presence of almost 15 years now including market cultivation and further development is clearly paying off now. Multipond additionally has sales operations in the Netherlands, Great Britain and France. Multinational concerns and strong mid-sized companies alike rely on Multipond’s top quality systems and the expertise of its team. There are also indications of enormous opportunities for growth in South America, while in Europe the food and confectionery market appears for now at least to be saturated at a very high level.
