Low-sugar and dried cranberries

More and more consumers are turning to healthy, low-sugar diets, so many food product manufacturers are searching for possibilities to reduce the sugar content in their products. To accommodate this trend the Hamburg-based ingredients specialist Bolasco has joined with its brand partner Ocean Spray to introduce low-sugar dried cranberries onto the market.

Compared with regular sugared cranberries this low-sugar ­variety from Bolasco contains 50 % less sugar, 36 % fewer calories and three times more fibre. This is possible because the producer Ocean Spray substitutes a portion of the normal sugar with soluble maize fibre featuring a naturally sweet taste but containing fewer calories than conventional sugar.
Bolasco offers two varieties of this new product, whole fruits and half-berries. Because they are exceedingly rich in vitamins, fibre and antioxidants while having reduced sugar levels these cranberries are ideal ingredients for healthy snacks. Chocolate products are yet another means of increasing both their visual appeal and functionality, making them an interesting option for health-conscious consumers.
